9 out of 25 found this helpful. Instead, we got a lot of crappy acting, a lot of simplified dialogue, and some horrendous pacing. Some of the creatures really did look frightening, and had the film focused more on them, it wouldn't have been so bad. Ghosts, spirits, creatures, demons and more from the paranormal world collide with rational curiosity.

20 out of 43 found this helpful. 20 out of 44 found this helpful. didn't know what to expect going into this, though i had decently high hopes since any found footage that gets higher than a 4 on IMDb tends to be pretty damn good (for some reason its trendy to hate movies, especially found footage). and the worst part? I finally had the opportunity to sit down and watch it, excited for the key-moments in the initial trailer that had piqued my interest. However, she has recorded a video of her abductors and she shows it to Ryan. This movie is anything but typical. i definitely recommend it. The Dark Tapes is a 2016 American found footage anthology horror film written and directed by Michael McQuown with Vincent J. Guastini directing the segment titled To Catch a Demon.The feature film consists of four segments To Catch A Demon, The Hunters & The Hunted, Cam Girls and Amanda's Revenge with a short opening sequence titled Wrap Around. As they get ready for bed, Karen, and then David, are attacked by an unseen force.

If there was any criticism I had it's that every segment had a very similar tone in the same way an artist's new album can sometimes almost be too consistent. The Dark Tapes takes full advantage of the potential for creative control the independent film scene offers production teams. I love anthology films, especially when they are of the horror variety, but this one was just a complete failure from beginning to end. One jump scene and one not bad story doesn't make a good movie and distorting a voice to make it seem scary, well that just went out with the ark. The synopsis promised a lot so I was looking forward to this one, but from the first few frames it was a total disappointment. Maybe school mates, family and friends have voted in IMDb to achieve such high rating.

Was this review helpful? This is not a movie. I initially got fooled by the good ratings of this despite me being suspicious, and my god, it's possibly one of the worst horrors I've ever seen. Ryan agrees and Amanda sets a trap to exact her revenge. The Black Tapes is a serialized docudrama about one journalist's search for truth, her subject's mysterious past, and the literal and figurative ghosts that haunt them both. It was a very creative found footage movie. I don't understand how these people get money to do this, its the worst filming imaginable. So often, I feel disappointed after watching independent films that take the same route (and same shortcuts) as mainstream productions whose content is homogenized, handcuffed by studio memorandums - the same jump scares, the same plot lines, the same character tropes - too little creativity on a platform that offers so much room for innovation. The investigators arrive and the lead investigator seems overly concerned with her on-camera appearance. 7 out of 12 found this helpful. They didn't have much to work with, yet the movie still turned out good and you could tell everyone or almost everyone put their heart into trying to make it good and interesting. yes there were scary parts but that doesnt mean it was good It played in multiple festivals from 2016 to February 2017, and was picked up for US Distribution by Epic Pictures Group. When it came out, I had high hopes for it. Even stranger, Ryan and Josh realize that there was no reported earthquake and everything seems fine outside. Her friend advises her to drink less and everything should be fine. "The Dark Tape" is not an exception, but below average. Terrible writing, bad editing, stock sound effects that I've heard used in student projects a hundred times, four completely unrelated stories, all of these things come together to make maybe the worst found-footage anthology film I've ever seen. However, the next morning Amanda walks out in a trance suggesting she was violated in unimaginable ways.
