I have seen Brassed Off many times, I do in fact own it, and every time I watch it it never fails to move me. An absolute tear-jerker for those with a little bit of heart. The many issues (Including class, prejudice, poverty, redundancy, family, a passion of music, dying and many more) all come out from the idea of a community. to the tune of "The Stars and Stripes Forever".
Every moment, every emotion is brought at the right time and the right place. Although I am only fourteen, I love films which are based on reality, just like the pit closures around England. This film has everything: Humour. That's the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, winners of the national Battle of the Bands competition in the year that the colliery closed down. Interesting locales. Much of the filming was done in and around Grimethorpe Colliery and players in the Grimethorpe band doubled as players in the fictitious Grimley band.

It's true that there is a fierce undercurrent of anti right wing leaning running through the movie, but to portray the characters any other way would be factually inaccurate.
How anyone can call it a comedy is beyond me. The coal miners in "Brassed Off" thought so too, but found redundancy not what it was cracked up to be. This demoralization of the militant miners was the basis behind the idea of being "brassed off".

Poignancy.

Although it deals with serious political and social class issues, it still manage to provide light entertainment in the comedy and music.
