Some ate plants. There is an interesting theme of 'sympathy for the devil' as well which is probably the best part of the movie along with themes of tolerance for an innocence that could so easily turn on you and make you into dinner. Direct to video follow ups are rarely any good, and when I heard the follow up to Don Bluths 1988 masterpiece the land before time was going to take that format, I was deeply troubled. 0 out of 0 found this helpful. The characters are also a little annoying, especially Cera. After the original classic animated film "The Last Before Time", there came many direct-to-video release sequels with which the original director and animation crew had no relation with. This time Bluth has nothing to do with it, and its a wise move as the movie will only disappoint. The reason I think there's a lot of hate on the sequels is because of the love we all have for the first Land Before Time, but I think this is just a new way for the generation of today to enjoy the same stories we had. Filled with wonderful characters, animation, and songs (My favorite being Peaceful Valley) Land Before Time 2 Great Valley Adventure is a great sequel any of the Land Before Time fans can enjoy! I don't think it's as good as the first movie, which I regard as second only to The Secret NIMH as far as animated films, but I do think that The Great Valley Adventure is still allot of fun. I first heard of this movie when I was a kid, and whenever I would watch it I would always turn it off in the middle of the movie because I was bored and crying about this bad film. The voice acting was very good, with Heather Hogan delightful as Ducky(if somewhat lacking the innocence and vulnerability of Judith Barsi) and Kenneth Mars dignified as Grandpa. Not that different, but different enough to be noticeable (especially in the case of the latter). The songs may be a bit irritating, but that he story is captivating and the it has a dose of laughter for young 'uns. Alright, so the original was a little on the cute side, but it had a sense of wonder, of youthful innocence and to cut a long story short was a moving tale of love, friendship and courage. They were dumb as heck but still pretty amusing. The main villains, called Ozzy and Strut are quite likable and very funny. It's a great story for the kids, it's harmless and has great morals. The animation seems a little more amateurish this time round but it takes close inspection to tell the difference. This is why there isn't a push for human-crocodile integration. I remember seeing the land before time 2 when it came out in 1994, this one came out 6 years after the first land before time (1988). [first lines], Narrator: Many eons ago, when the earth was young, millions of years before the first humans, was the age of the great lizards..., [the dinosaur eats grass], Narrator: The dinosaurs. I do think that the song "Eggs" is at least amusing and that the sharp-tooth battle was worth seeing. Was this review helpful? Consequently it lacks the heart of its predecessor. This storyline is full of morals and lessons from peer pressure, friendship, listening to your parents, cherishing childhood, prejudice, discrimination, teamwork and much more. A lot of the sequels, and there are many of them, are not all that good, especially not when compared to the original. Why is this necessary? Of course, most children will not mind this film but watching as an adult (although I am a bit childish myself), it isn't as great as I used to think it was. But there's so much effort put into elements that kids wouldn't care about that it easily could have been theatrical material. Of course, no sequel can ever be as good as or beat the original because Don Bluth had no further part to play in any of these sequels. Was this review helpful?
