Apocalyptic yarn from the celebrated author of the Three-Body Problem trilogy (Death's End, 2016, etc.). (Notably, it was written at a time when that country’s one-child policy was still in effect.) Very disappointing from such a classy writer. How can the same writer come up with a masterpiece like Wages of Humanity and then this stuff?

It’s no accident that one character mentions William Golding’sEventually such trivial forms of fun, however, get boring. A world ruled by children without adults to guide them. So the warming continent of Antarctica is used as the arena for the first Olympic Games of the children’s era, in which the events are bloody and attritional contests that use tanks, mortars and live grenades. Cixin Liu’s latest work, Supernova Era (launching this October & published by Tor Books), begins with a terrifying event—eight light-years from Earth, a dying star explodes into a supernova. Format: Paperback Change. Because this one is happening all too close to us: a mere eight light years away, a star that had been hidden from human eyes behind a dust cloud is now exploding.Eight years later, the radiation arrives at Earth, lighting up the atmosphere and wrecking DNA in all the life forms on the planet. To understand the scope of celebrated Chinese author Cixin Liu′s 2005 novel Supernova Era, finally available to Western audiences in an English translated edition by Joel Martinsen, it helps to look back to its influences, and those works published since its original publication in China. Puzzling. The novel focuses on the three 13-year-old Chinese children who are to rule the country, and later on their American counterparts. What happens when children are left to run the world on their own? 5 star 52% 4 star 9% 3 star 15% 2 star 9% 1 star 15% The Supernova Era. Avoid - this is an opinion from a real fan as well. Preorder. I just didn't get what the author was trying to say here. The Supernova Era › Customer reviews; Customer reviews. The scenario is a little different but not unique, the book ranges through time as do many of Cixin Liu's other books but this one doesn't get anywhere interesting. Really not worth the effort unfortunately. Approved third parties also use these tools in connection with our display of ads.Sorry, there was a problem saving your cookie preferences.

SUPERNOVA ERA. Early on, the narrator remarks, with affectionate condescension towards his ancestors: “Though they knew they were living on but a speck of dust in the cosmos, they had not truly come to accept this fact.” It may be that we never will until it’s too late.Only the young survive in this fascinating thought experiment by the author of The Three-Body Problem© 2020 Guardian News & Media Limited or its affiliated companies. But the plausibility from there on constantly remains near the zero mark. Only the young survive in this fascinating thought experiment by the author of The Three-Body Problem. 3.3 out of 5 stars. Really struggling my way through it as the language and sentence structure is nowhere near that of the previous books. Folgendes Review ist frei von Spoilern! The authorities soon realise that everyone will die in a matter of months, except for children aged 13 and under: they are young enough, it is discovered, that their bodies can repair the DNA damage. Boring. The Supernova Era › Customer reviews; Customer reviews. In the words of the author's last sentence …"the story told in this novel is fairly unremarkable. Regardless of the fact that the book is written by an adult, thus representing ideas how an adult would see this develop, it makes one think.Very interesting start, the society will change unimaginably... great premise! 59 customer ratings.

Finished the book out of respect for the writer -am a huge fan of Cixin Liu’s work but his last two books (Ball Lightning) and this one, both serious disappointments.
