bared to you review

Combine this with oodles of hot sex, fast paced prose, uber drama and the most ridiculously obsessive, over the top male you can come up with, and it seems to be a winning combo: hypnotic repetition interspersed with sex-scene delivered endorphins. When a book starts to make a reader feel manipulated, the author has failed that reader. Actually, I think one of the appeals of 50 is that dynamic, despite the fact that so many of its readers have never read HPs (or any genre Romance novel, for that matter).

Examples include novels by Ilona Andrews, Mary Balogh, Aster Glenn Gray, Helen Hoang, Piper Huguley, Lisa Kleypas, Jeannie Lin, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Naomi Novik, Nalini Singh, and Megan Whalen Turner. I think the thing about the nightmare scene is that it feels … God, this feels like a weird thing for me to say, and sorry if it’s inappropriate and appropriative … but it felt objectifying, to me? Sylvia Day just left me…bored. Most of the time her language didn’t bother me, and I liked that she knew what she liked when it came to sex.I think a lot of people who are sexually abused as children grow up to be sexually active — in fact my understanding was that it’s not uncommon for them to be more so than the average person, but maybe I have that wrong too?Gideon didn’t appeal to me either as you can see from my review.
Few do it so well though. We do not purchase all the books we review here. I loved Eva (at first…. “Get your fucking hands off of me!”I froze, my heart racing. Surprisingly Compelling Start to Continuing Romance Series I got interested enough to read the internet a bit and there’s an interview with Day where she says she was specifically addressing Harlequin tropes. From what you’ve said in your review, I think this book might better illustrate the problem I had with Jo Beverley’s Forbidden (as an aside, I said Serena was horribly damaged, not horrible), and with traumatized characters as plot device in general; it takes a delicate touch and stern resolve (a resolve which could easily become gloomy when you’re talking about five books) to follow through on what you’ve started and often authors drag it out there but ultimately desert it, and you’re left with a not-so-cute-anymore alligator dwelling in the pages of the book. To cure my withdrawal after reading the Fifty Shades series, I decided to pick this up. Another woman’s face was in her crotch. At least with Roarke it was established that he earned his wealth from a wide array of underground criminal pursuits starting at a very young age. Take the sex out of 50 shades and there is still a romance arc and charaterisation. My friend (like many others) raved about 50 Shades of Grey so I read it and I was absolutely appalled at the utter tripe the hordes were greedily consuming. Thus it never occurred to me I had to read 50SoG; then came BtY, by an author who had written a few of my favourites. She obsesses about doing Gideon just as much as he obsesses about doing her:He was the kind of guy that made a woman want to rip his shirt open and watch the buttons scatter along with her inhibitions (p. 17)And she’s just as freakily jealous as he is. I couldn’t read it, it was frustrating.why not put all this comments on S. Day’s Twitter… I did comment there and I don’t think she or any of her “fans” liked it… what a horrible book. Can anyone of us say that there wasn’t one instance in our lives that led us to irrational thought or action? I read “Bared to You” after listening to the pod cast. Having not read any of the Fifty shades books (why?, because if you read the many many reviews on Amazon, there seems to be a lot of fifty shades of crap etc) So why did I give this one a go then you are asking yourself. The only time Gideon repeated called Eva and wanted her to call back “leaving her multiple messages” was when he was ADMITTING he f** up and wanting to apologizes, which seems like a good quality since most guys could care less if you are ignoring them. First, we are asked to believe that at only twenty-eight years of age, he has acquired wealth and CEO status. I have liked previous publications from the author so I’ll probably give her books a try again in the future but this was awful for me.Janine, I think you might be my long lost twin, in a cerebral sense at least. I struggled but the first person narration was one major deterrent, not to mention it’s a series. As an abuse victim I can promise all authors that there is nothing remotely sexy about my past! There are so many wonderful books out there, I am not sure I even want to do this. On top of that, I think Sylvia Day is the bomb, so I’m just delighted to see her success.Sounds like a complete lost opportunity! James’s work. Further, I do think that the company the purchased the publishing rights to the book did a disservice to Sylvia Day by changing the cover to resemble the FSOG books and to Market it as the “next 50 shades.” Ultimately I think it just comes down to a matter of personal preference, Personally I couldn’t get past the writing style of FSOG to enjoy the story, but I liked Bared to You. In this case I had some chemistry with Eva but none with Gideon and that was not enough to keep me reading. After reading the “Fifty Shades of Grey” trilogy (twice), I was looking forward to another sit-by-the-pool-and-sweat love story. I found the sex abuse stuff genuinely really problematic and, therefore, on some level, it troubles me that so many readers appear to have got such unalloyed delight out of a book which I feel can be seen as trivialising sexual abuse.

So, to me, it was a risk Day was taking to take the hotter-than-hot, inexplicably wealthy at a young age hero and give him such a backstory. She shoved herself onto Gideon just a s much as he did her. You know it’s unhealthy, that love isn’t, or shouldn’t be an addictive spiral, and yet, there’s a sense of trust that the characters will show enough growth not to be these messed-up hormonal adolescents.
