rocket def leppard

It reminded me of when I was 12 and I went to this children’s disco and “Rock and Roll Part 2” came on.

In addition the song has been heard at the beginning and end of advert breaks surrounding the coverage of “Rocket” was the final single released (sixth overall in the UK; seventh in the US) from Def Leppard’s massively successful album Hysteria. At some shows, the album version gets performed, while at others they play the edited version instead. "Rocket" is a song recorded by English rock band Def Leppard in 1987 from the album Hysteria.

The song has been used as the musical accompaniment in advertisements for Sony high definition televisions with a number of different themes being used for the adverts. In its single release, "Rocket" was heavily edited from its original length of 6:34 for radio airplay, but would omit many of the portions that greatly distinguished the track from the rest of the album.

The “Burundi Black” thing was just a much more rustic, urban, natural version of that.

Rocket

It really got under my skin and sucked me in. I said, “Why don’t we do a similar thing to that?

Then we all bashed it into shape as a piece of music. When it came to the lyrics, we started singing “rocket” because it was a simplistic phrase that fit the sort of space-age sound that had developed over this African drum loop. It was the sixth (seventh in the US) and final single release, coming out in January 1989 and hitting the Top 15 in the US Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart.

So I remember thinking, “Why don’t we just use the rocket thing as a metaphor, and make the song a vehicle to talk about our childhoods?” Like, the Easybeats took the easy way out with “Friday on My Mind” — they turned it into a genius thing by just naming the days of the week. But things like “Bennie and the Jets” and “Killer Queen,” all that kind of stuff, it just fit the whole vibe of what we were doing. So I borrowed it off that friend and made a loop of the actual drum pattern. Let’s just name-check as many artists that influenced us as we possibly can.” And obviously there’s artistic license with a few people who weren’t part of our musical DNA but are there for rhyming reasons, like Jet Black [drummer for the Stranglers] and whoever.

I started putting chords on top of it, and that turned into what is now the chorus of this song. But I felt like Bowie had done the space thing to death. UK versions of the single release featured a cover of the During one break in the production of the song, the band were surprised to find that Lange had added the extended breakdown, complete with the vocal sampling, to the middle of the song. “Rocket” was the final single released (sixth overall in the UK; seventh in the US) from Def Leppard’s massively successful album It was the sixth straight top 20 hit for the band from the album in both I’d been hanging out with somebody in Holland who had been playing me “Burundi Black,” which has this immensely hypnotic African drum pattern.

Lange also instructed the band to record monk-like chants, that were also similarly used by Adam and the Ants in their song "For its lyrics, the names of classic rock artists, songs or albums are dropped as a tribute to the music of the band's youth.
