Subscription. While Shanghai Fortress is not likely to win any awards, it's adequate if you're looking for brainless entertainment So I have it a 2 instead of a zero! Based on Jiang Nan's eponymous 2009 sci-fi novel (also translated as Once Upon a Time in Shanghai), the film depicts the human race's last stand in Shanghai fighting against aliens who try to seize a hidden energy source on earth in 2042. Director Teng Huatao brought Chinese viewers back down to earth. Directed by Hua-Tao Teng.

After so many years of fighting against aliens, they should know the aliens are bulletproof. really?! The cgi is really bad, like tv show's cgi budget. Take any 10 minute sequence, pretend you are watching Sharknado, and you will understand how truly bad this movie is. Seeing Lu Han, a member of the 'little fresh meat' a term given to actors or young, overly boyish guys (typically only 2-3 of them at a time) who are featured in around 70% of the ads in China, playing the lead role, hurt those hopes. Other reviewers are right! After all, Hollywood still produces plenty of mediocre movies where aliens attack American cities, whether it’s One also has to give credit to the film’s CGI team for making some pretty good on-screen depictions of Shanghai being blown up by aliens (we’re pretty tired of only seeing American cities getting blown up).

Living in Shanghai, had high hopes going in.
